Under the thoughtful leadership of President James Wagner, Emory University is continuing its profound transformation. During Emory’s previous campaign, then-president James Laney led the University from respected regional institution to major research university. The growth of Emory Graduate School was essential to achieving national distinction. In 2009 Emory Graduate School became the James T. Laney School of Graduate Studies in honor of Laney's longtime service to and support of the University.

Now Campaign Emory is moving the graduate school into new territory. This campaign envisions the school among an elite group of graduate schools articulating new directions for higher education and the creation of knowledge. A vibrant academic community of discovery and creativity, the Laney Graduate School offers state-of-the-art training across the humanities, social sciences, and natural, biological, an biomedical sciences. The graduate school trains the women and men who pursue answers to the most pressing problems of our time. Drawing on Emory’s tradition of innovative, engaged scholarship, the graduate school imbues those students with expertise, creativity to cross disciplinary lines, and courage to take on the world’s most complex questions.
