Confronting the Human Condition and Experience

Emory is home to one of the largest student volunteer groups in the nation, a premier theology school, a medical center caring for more than a million patients, and a school of public health with global partners. Emory has the courage to ask what it means to be human and the commitment to share its expertise and discoveries with the world community.

Your investment in Emory will promote cultural understanding and attract international scholars with surprising new answers to age-old questions.

Exploring Spirituality and Humanity Across Disciplines

Emory fosters a culture of respect that enables the serious study of spirituality across disciplines. Through scholarship and ethical engagement, Emory explores issues of religion and humanity: peace building, sexuality, health, contemplative practices, science, and the arts. This difficult work helps build a civic culture and enhances the common good, locally and globally.

Emory is a premier center for the study of Tibetan philosophy and religion in the West, primarily due to its extraordinary relationship with Tibetan Buddhist institutes of higher learning in India. Led by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who is an Emory Presidential Distinguished Professor, the Emory-Tibet Partnership is studying meditation to treat depression and creating a comprehensive science education curriculum for Tibetan monastics.

Promoting Dialogue Across Cultures

Emory’s strengths in the humanities, sciences, and health research as well as its location in Atlanta, the cradle of the civil rights movement, offer unique insights. An emphasis on action sets those ideas in motion. Emory’s Transforming Community Project engages faculty and staff, students, and alumni in conversations about race and racism on campus and in the United States.

Improving Health Around the World

Through Emory’s Global Health Institute and the Institute for Developing Nations, Emory collaborates with governments, universities, and private institutions around the world. Working together, they are spreading hope, especially in developing countries, where small investments pay huge returns in humanitarian relief, democratic strength, and the healing of disease, malnutrition, and poverty.
