As a student, Emory College alumna Elizabeth Sholtys split her time between Emory and the Mahindra United World College of India, where she began working with Mumbai street children in 2004. She was a freshman then, with an interest in anthropology, and her research into the health risks these children face led her to a clear decision: She would found an orphanage.
A year and a lifetime of effort later, the new Ashraya Initiative for Children in Pune, India, accepted its first residents. In Hindi, Ashraya means hope, trust, shelter, and protection.
Your support will drive engaged learning and scholarship, strengthening the University’s ability to effect positive change in the world.
