Emory has a history of collaboration, innovation, and inclusion that continues to transform individuals and populations alike. The University’s next chapter will be the most challenging yet, requiring an even greater investment of Emory’s best work. As the world’s problems grow, so must our commitment.
Emory professor emeritus Gene Gangarosa, an international expert on waterborne diseases, and his wife, Rose, have spent much of their lives in countries plagued by the devastating effects of unsafe water. In the 1960s and 1970s, the couple lived in several South Asian and Middle Eastern countries. Rose Gangarosa still remembers the mothers who walked miles to get enough water for just one day. And she remembers the young children suffering from diseases caused by drinking contaminated water.
Determined to do everything possible to ease suffering in the developing world, the Gangarosas have pledged to establish two chairs at the Rollins School of Public Health to support Emory’s expertise in safe water and sanitation. Their gift is an investment in the future of the global community and a way to set the best minds to work on worldwide water challenges.
